Vacuum hose fitting melted?

I drive a 1998 mitsubishi spyder eclipse gs, 4g64 SOHC engine. The stock air intake tube is rubber and there is a little "spout" or fitting that is part of the tube where the vacuum hose fits into. I dont know how it happened but part of the little "spout" has melted. the vacuum hose now just kind of sits into this little spout, and i know it doesnt have an air tight seal. So in order for me to get this fixed I would have to get a whole to rubber tube because the fitting it is part of it. Is this bad? Do I need to fix this?
