Can a company withdraw money from my bank account after i have refused authorisation?

A leading electricity & gas company took �114 from my account 10 days after i had switched & received written confirmation the account had been switched to a different provider. Following a phonecall with the former provider during which i informed them that they no longer had my authorisation to withdraw any funds they attempted to withdraw a further �59. Is what they have done illegal?
